New Christchurch airport terminal building

The new Christchurch terminal was opened in 2013 to replace the 1960 building designed by Paul Pascoe. The new terminal, by Warren and Mahoney, was completed at a cost of $237 million. The sculpture in front is entitled ‘Cumulus Gate pavilion for Richard Pearse’. Designed by Gregor Kregar, it consists of 1,000 pieces of hand-cut stainless steel which reflect the environment. The title refers to the pioneering South Canterbury aircraft designer Richard Pearse.
