McKenzie memorial, Cheviot

McKenzie memorial, Cheviot

In the 1890s Minister of Lands Jock McKenzie became very popular with would-be farmers. His policy of buying and subdividing large estates allowed many less wealthy people to get into farming. The grateful citizens of Cheviot gave McKenzie the credit for the 1893 division of the Cheviot Hills estate, and built this memorial to him.
