Middlemarch singles

Like many rural Otago communities, Middlemarch has many more single men than women. This video was made in 2001, when an Easter dance was first organised to attract single women to the township. Now known as the Middlemarch singles ball, it has become an annual fixture and is accompanied by other activities, including a men’s fashion show.
