Pei Te Hurinui Jones was a 20th-century Ngāti Maniapoto leader, King movement advisor, genealogist and land administrator. He is best remembered for his editorial work on the renowned collection of Māori songs Nga moteateaafter the death of the first editor, Apirana Ngata. Jones was identified by Ngata as having leadership potential when he was in his early 20s, a prediction which was borne out. His many years of research into Tainui history and genealogy culminated in Nga iwi o Tainui, a history of the Tainui tribes, which was published posthumously in 1995.
