Crown Range road summit

Crown Range road summit

Snow is not uncommon at the summit of the Crown Range road, which links Queenstown and Wānaka. The road reaches 1,076 metres – just 2 metres higher than the Desert Road summit in the North Island. The bronze plaque records the journey of William Rees and Nicholas von Tunzelman south over the range in 1859, from Wānaka to Wakatipu.
