Kōrero: Otago places

1890s Dunedin

1890s Dunedin

In the 1890s Dunedin had the mature feel of a larger city, such as Melbourne or Chicago, although its urban population was just 47,000 in 1896. This view looks south along Princes Street from the tower of the town hall and municipal chambers. It shows many of the substantial business premises that lined the city’s main streets.
