Coal mine, Kāwhia, 1904

Coal mine, Kāwhia, 1904

The main coal mines in the King Country were around Mōkau, Ōhura, Āria and Benneydale. Coal is also present around Kawhia, though it has not been mined on a large scale. This is the entrance to a coal mine in Kāwhia in 1904, not long after it opened.
