Whatiwhatihoe pā: landscape, 1884

During his exile in Te Rohe Pōtae, King Tāwhiao lived in a number of places. After his peace agreement with the government in 1881 he spent time at Whatiwhatihoe, underneath Mt Pirongia. This is the in 1884. Cultivated fields are visible in the foreground and near the waterway at left.
