Nestled at the foot of Te Aroha mountain, the domain preserves structures that date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Te Aroha was a spa, famed for its mineral hot pools. The world’s only hot soda water geyser, called Mōkena, is in its grounds. One of the domain’s most elaborate buildings is the former Cadman Bathhouse, which now houses the museum.
