Kōrero: Waikato places

Kakepuku

Kakepuku

At 449 metres high, Kakepuku is small compared with most other Waikato mountains, but its rounded shape makes it instantly recognisable. It has been an important place of occupation for centuries, with remains of four on its slopes. The Kakepuku Mountain Conservation Project was established in 1995 to reduce possum, goat and rat populations and protect the forest and native wildlife.
