These pou (carved posts) outside the Skycity casino in Hamilton represent ancient Māori deities and ancestors. They were commissioned by Waikato-Tainui to mark the historic and cultural significance of the land on which the casino stands. Together they create an oval canoe shape, which symbolises their connection with the river they overlook. They depict (from left) Hinenuitepō, Puna, Poutūterangi, Mokohape and Māui.
