Chesney Wold

Chesney Wold on Karori Road was the childhood home of New Zealand writer Katherine Mansfield between 1893 and 1898. One of her most famous short stories, ‘The doll’s house’, was set at the house. This photograph was taken around 1900, when Karori West was still largely farmland. The house still stands, but has been much altered.
