Ka ngaro te whenua Māori

Ka whakaatu te mahere whenua nei i te rironga atu o ngā whenua o te Māori i Te Ika-a-Māui. Tatū ki te tau 1860, i te Māori tonu te nuinga o ngā whenua, hāunga a Te Whanganui-a-Tara, a Te Wairarapa, a Te Matau-a-Māui me ētahi takiwā o Te Tai Tokerau. Nō te tekau tau atu i 1860, ka hia miriona eka i raupatungia e te kāwanatanga, i riro rānei ki ngā rauhanga a te Kōti Whenua Māori. I waenganui i ngā tau 1890 me 1920, hāunga ngā whakahē a te Māori, he nui rawa atu ngā whenua ka hokona e te kāwanatanga. Kia tae ki te tau 1937, tino iti noa te whenua kei roto tonu i ngā ringaringa o te Māori.
