I whakatuwheratia te marae o Te Whare Wānanga o Te Ūpoko o Te Ika-a-Māui, a Te Herenga Waka, i te tau 1980. Nāwai ka hikipapa te whare ki tētahi wāhi hou. E whakaatu ana tēnei whakaahua i te whakatuwheratanga o tōna whare whakairo o Te Tumu Herenga Waka i te tau 1986. He tino whai hiranga ngā taonga pēnei ki ngā tari Māori, nā te mea ka āhei te tuku i ngā akoako i roto i te horopaki Māori.
