I muri i te ūnga ki Kāwhia, ka hīkoi te iwi o Aotea ki te tai tonga kia noho i ngā whenua e karapoti ana i te awa o Pātea. I te tau 1933 ka whakatūhia e ngā uri o te waka o Aotea tēnei whakamaumaharatanga ki Pātea ‘hei whakamaumaharatanga mō Turi rātou ko Rongorongo, ko te whānau me ngā kaiheke’.
