Canton village

At least 300 Chinese men were mining gold at Round Hill (near Riverton/Aparima) by the late 1880s. The settlement was still flourishing when this photograph was taken. But by 1907 the gold was largely worked out, and only about a dozen Chinese miners and a few Europeans remained.
