Speedway

The Upper Hutt Family Speedway at Te Marua is Wellington’s main motor racing venue. Opened in 1972, it originally attracted workers from the region’s motor assembly industry. Later it became popular as family entertainment. Under a blaze of lights and with high-revving engines filling the air, the speedway draws enthusiasts from across the lower North Island. Classes raced include stock cars, saloons, modifieds and sidecars.
