Ko Rāhiri te tipuna taketake o Ngāpuhi. I whānau ia ki te pā o Whiria i Te Tai Tokerau. Ka tae ki te wā, ka haere ia i tana haerenga roa rawa atu mā te moana o Toitehuatahi haere ana ki Te Tai Rāwhiti, ahu atu ki Te Whanganui-a-Tara, toro rawa ki te hauāuru o Te Ika-a-Māui. Nā tēnei hīkoi roa, ka noho a Rāhiri hei tipuna o Ngāti Rāhiri-tumutumuwhenua i Hauraki, a Ngāti Ruanui me Ngāti Rāhiri o Taranaki.
