One of many businesses established in the growing settlement of Balclutha was a watchmaking and jewellery store founded in 1866 by John Jamie (probably the figure pictured here in the doorway wearing an apron). The following year he moved into the town’s former Bank of Otago building. Still owned by the same family, in 2026 Jamies Jewellers celebrated 160 years in business.
