In the 1996 WearableArt awards, Dragon Fish, designed by Susan Holmes of Auckland, won both the silk section and the supreme award. The World of WearableArt and Classic Cars Museum in Nelson houses over 600 costumes that have been entered into the WearableArt Awards, an annual show which originated in Nelson in 1987. Around 70 garments are on display at the museum, along with 100 classic cars. The museum opened in 2001 in the former distribution warehouse of a Honda car-assembly plant.
