He kapohanga kōrero tēnei mai i te hōtaka o Te Kareree whakaatu ana i te whakatuwheratanga o te waharoa ki te Tapawhā o Aotea, i te pokapū o Tāmaki. Ko Herewini Murupaenga o Ngāpuhi me Te Aupouri te kaiwhakairo. E kīia ana he tūāhua Māori, he tūāhua Pākehā tō te whakairo nei. Ko te koromatua o Tāmaki, ko John Banks tērā e whakatau ana he koha tēnei ki te iwi o Ngāti Whātua. I tōna uinga kia tuku whakamārama ia mō te waharoa, ka whakahoki a Murupaenga, ‘Pēnā ka riro māku nei e whakamārama, kāore e tika taku mahi.’
