I haere mai ngā tūpuna o Te Āti Awa ki Aotearoa mā runga i te waka a Tokomaru. E tohu ana te whakaahua nei i te tukua o te punga (Punga Tokomaru) me tētahi toki (Poutama Whiria) o runga i a Tokomaru ki te whare taonga o Taranaki i te 23 o Hepetema 1927. Ko ngā kaitiaki ake o ngā taonga nei, atu i te taha mauī, ko Nohomairangi Te Whiti o Taranaki Tūturu ki Parihaka,  rātou ko Kapinga McClutchie o Ngāti Mutunga ki Waitoetoe, ko Rangi Matatoru Watson o Te Āti Awa ki Waitara.
