Driven to drink

Driven to drink

When Ohinemuri people voted for prohibition in 1908, miners were forced to go outside the district – usually to Hikutaiā or Katikati – to get a drink. The other option was to make home brew. This photograph recalls that era, which came to a close in 1926.
