He manu tapu a Te Kawau-a-Toru, he mōkai tūturu nā Kupe. Inā te whānui o ōna parirau. Ko te kōrero, koia te ‘kanohi o ngā tīpuna’ – he manu tapu i matatau ki ngā mātauranga tuauri whāioio. He mōkai kererū anō tā Kupe, ko Te Rupe te ingoa. Nā te nui o te kai ki ngā ngahere o Te Wai Pounamu, kāore te manu nei i hoki ki a Kupe, noho kē ki te ngahere.
