I te takiwā o te tau 1000 BC ka tere te hōrapa o te iwi Lapita atu i Ngā Moutere Horomona ki ngā huinga motu o Poronihia Tawhiti: a Whenuatū, Ngā Moutere Loyalty, Kanaki, Whītī, Tonga, Hāmoa. Ka kore haere ngā whakanikoniko o ngā matapaia, kīia ai e ngā mātai whaipara tangata ēnei momo matapaia, he Polynesian plainware. Nāwai ā, ka ngaro ngā toi matapaia ki te nuinga o ngā moutere.
