E whakaatu ana tēnei hoahoa i te tikanga e kīia ana he whatu. He maha ngā kākahu me ngā taonga ātaahua ka hua ake i tēnei tikanga. Kāore i whakamahia te rūmu (loom), engari ka tōrua kē te whatunga o ngā aho. Ko ngā aho heke ka kīia he whenu. I roto i tēnei hoahoa, ka tuia te aho ki te whenu.
