Whale rider

Whale rider was a 2002 film based on the book of the same name by Witi Ihimaera, which in turn drew some of its inspiration from the story of Paikea, who travelled from Hawaiki on the back of a whale. In this clip from the film a contemporary Paikea, played by Keisha Castle-Hughes, practises a waiata (song) which talks of the nearby Whitirēia meeting house and its carving of Paikea.
