Nā Tene Waitara i whakairo te whare whakairo o Rauru i Whakarewarewa (i whakatuwherahia i te tau 1900). E whakaatu ana ko Māui e tomo ana i a Hine-nui-te-pō. E ai ki te kōrero nā te kata a tīrairaka (ko moho-pererū ki ētahi) ka oho ake a Hine-nui-te-pō, ā, kūtia iho a Māui ki ōna kūhā, ā mate noa. Ki te ao Māori, ki ētahi atu iwi o te ao hoki, he taonga te katakata me te pōuri.
