Murderers Rock

Murderers Rock

The 40-kilometre Maungatapu track goes from Pelorus Bridge on State Highway 6, up the Pelorus River, then over the Maungatapu Saddle to the Maitai valley and through to Nelson. Murderers Rock (foreground), a short distance below the Marlborough side of the saddle, marks the place where a criminal gang assaulted, robbed and killed five travellers in June 1866.
