I te kawenga o te whakaaturanga Te Māori ki Amerika (1984-1987) ka tū a Pūkaki hei tauira mō te toi whakairo a te Māori. Nō te tau 1997 ka whakatauhia e te whare taonga me whakahokia a Pūkaki ki a Ngāti Whakaue. Kātahi a Pūkaki ka whakatūhia ki roto i te tari whare kaunihera o Rotorua – ki reira tū ana ia i te taha o ngā matapihi e anga atu ana ki tana kāinga tawhito ki te pā o Te Pukeroa. Ara noa atu ngā take i whakahokia ai a Pūkaki – arā ko te kaingākau kia whakahokia mai ngā mano taonga kei ngā whare taonga o te ao whānui ki o rātou nā tūrangawaewae.
