Chatham Island pipit

The Chatham Island pipit (Anthus novaeseelandiae chathamensis) is considered a subspecies of the New Zealand pipit (Anthus novaeseelandiae). Before humans arrived, birds were the larger animal on the Chatham Islands. On Mangere Island there were at last 11 seabird species (most of which nested in burrows), seven shorebirds and 19 species in the forest or more open habitats.
