Ko Puapua-Tirohia te ingoa ake o tēnei pā tūwatawata o Ngāti Hako. I mau te ingoa nei i te tukunga a tētahi rangatira i ētahi whenua ki tētahi atu rangatira. Ko aua whenua, atu i te taha rāwhiti o te awa o Waihou, ahu atu ki te maunga o Te Aroha, tatū rawa ki Te Rae-o-te-papa. Ka kī taua rangatira rā, ‘Mai i tēnei rae o te rangi ki tērā rae o te papa, ko te puapua e tirohiae au!’ I te wā ka tīmata te rere o ngā tereina i te rohe, ka karanga ngā tāngata, ‘Tirohia te tereina!
