The Māui A platform was towed from Japan to the shelter of Golden Bay, near Nelson. There it was checked by engineers, who then waited for favourable conditions to tow it to its final destination 34 kilometres off the Taranaki coast. In this photograph the platform is floating on its side, ready to be hoisted upright. The divers standing beside one of the platform’s four giant feet are dwarfed by the enormous structure.
