Ko Matariki te wā o waenga i te hauhake i ngā kai o te tau me te rumaki i ngā kai o te tau hou. Ranea ana te kai i ngā pātaka. E rua ngā momo kai i āta mahia i tēnei wā, nō reira e āta hono ana ēnei ki a  Matariki. Ko te kererū tēnā, ko te korokoro tēnā. I rite tonu te korotutuhia o te manu ki ōna ake mōmona ki tētahi tahā pērā i tērā kei te whakaahua nei.
