E haka mai ana ēnei kaitākaro tēnehi Māori. Anō nei e mau patu ana ngā wāhine. Nāwai ka whai hiranga ake te tēnehi i roto i te ao Māori, ā, he maha ngā papa tēnehi ka horahia ki ngā marae ātea o te motu. I te tau 1926 ka whakatūria te Rōpū Tēnehi Ātea Māori (nāwai ka huaina ko te Rōpū Tēnehi Māori o Aotearoa).
