He tipuna tawhito a Toi-kai-rākau (ko Toitehuatahi, ko Toi rānei) ki ngā iwi o Te Urewera puta noa. He iwi tēnei i noho ki Te Urewera i mua i te taenga mai o Mataatua,pēnei i a Te Mārangaranga, Te Tini o Tuoi, Ngāi Tūranga. Ko Te Tini o Toi te kāhui nei. Kei Rūātoki tēnei whare tipuna, a Toi-kai-rākau. Ko Hāmua te hapū, ko Ngāi Tūhoe te iwi.
