Smash Palace

Much of the 1982 film Smash Palace centred on a car wrecker’s yard, modelled on the massive one at Horopito, just north of Ohakune at the foot of Mt Ruapehu. Four years earlier, the movie Skin Deep, about a woman setting up a massage parlour in small-town New Zealand, had been filmed in Raetihi.
