The Howard Morrison Quartet

Howard Morrison (left), from a musical Rotorua family, formed his quartet with Gerry Merito, Wi Wharekura and Noel Kingi in 1956. The group’s recordings made them popular throughout New Zealand, and made Morrison a household name. ‘The Battle of Waikato’ (1959), their parody of ‘The Battle of New Orleans’, became one of their biggest hits. The quartet disbanded in 1965, but Morrison remained prominent in the worlds of music and entertainment until his death in 2009.

picked up a second hand cd from cash converters recently.it was a real pleasure to listen to what were once household names howard presented his music with spirit and joy.i do recall one presentation in what was known as the top tavern in porirua quite some time back. im now 82 yrs and have followed howards journey through its musical travels. regards Alf
