Rotorua entertainers, singers and cousins Ana Hato and Deane Waretini received contracts from Australian recording companies. This advertisement from around 1930 lists many of their records, on which they performed what had become, thanks to them, well-known Maori songs. These included ‘Waiata poi’, ‘Pōkarekare ana’ and ‘Pō atarau’.
