E whakaatu ana te mahere nei i ngā huarahi i whāia e Te Āti Awa i ngā heke e rua o te tekau tau atu i 1820. Nā ngā whawhai ki ngā iwi o Waikato rātou i heke ai. I Te Heke Tātaramoa o te tau 1822, i haere ngātahi a Te Āti Awa, a Ngāti Toa, a Ngāti Mutunga me Ngāti Tama. I Te Heke Nihoputa o te tau 1824, ka whai anō a Ngāti Mutunga me Ngāti Tama i a Te Āti Awa. He roa, he mōrearea ēnei heke, i te mea, me haere rā anō rātou mā ngā whenua o iwi kē (e whero ana i te mahere).
