Reclaim the night march

Reclaim the night march

This poster advertises a women's march against rape and violence. Marches such as these were used by Rape Crisis as a way of raising awareness of the problem. Rape is often an aspect of domestic violence, but until 1985 rape within marriage was not a criminal offence. Formed from the late 1970s, rape crisis centres, like women's refuges, provided support for victims and attempted to educate the public.
