Ko Takiroa tēnei, takiwā ki te raki o Ōtākou – he wāhi rongonui tēnei, he tuwhera kau atu ki te iwi nui tonu. Nō te tau 1851 ka tāia tēnei tānga e Walter Mantell, te kōmihana mō ngā whenua Karauna ki Te Waipounamu. I kaingākau a Mantell ki te hītori o te ao tūroa, ā, koia te Pākehā tuatahi kia hopu i ngā toi ana Māori.
