Ko E Wai (e noho ana) rāua ko Kahoki ēnei, kei te pā o Te Aro ki Te Whanganui-a-Tara i te tau 1844. He irāmutu ēnei nā Te Rauparaha, ka mutu he rangatira tonu. I ngā tau o 1840 he nui ngā whenua i Te Whanganui-a-Tara ka hokona e te kamupene Niu Tīreni. Ko tā rātou oati ko ngā whakatekau o aua whenua ka riro ki ngā rangatira, ā, mā te hunga tūtūā e whakamahi i te whenua.
