Merivale shops, 2006 and 2014

In 2006 (top) Merivale was a fashionable and busy shopping centre on Papanui Road, with cafés, upmarket shops and a mall. After suffering considerable earthquake damage in February 2011, the area was reviving in 2014 but, as can be seen in the bottom image, the western side of Papanui Road still had empty spaces and unoccupied buildings.
