Read an extract from Hubert Church's 1916 novel, Tonks: a New Zealand yarn, which describes an English nobleman's tour of the North Island. The Hubert Church Memorial Award for Prose was established in 1945 with the assistance of a bequest from his widow to the New Zealand Centre of PEN.
