Read an extract from Hubert Church's 1916 novel Tonks: a New Zealand yarn, which tells of an English nobleman's tour through the North Island. The Hubert Church Memorial Award for Prose was established in 1945 with the assistance of a bequest to the New Zealand Centre of PEN from his widow.
