Mines in Karangahake mountain

This cross-section of Karangahake mountain, published as part of the government mines statement in 1908, shows the extent of the drives and shafts, which reached from near the top of the mountain to well below sea level. There were three major mining enterprises at Karangahake: the Crown, Talisman and Woodstock companies. In 1904 the Woodstock’s claim was taken over by the Talisman company, and both claims are shown here.
