Ko te whakapapa tēnei o te hīhue. He whetū a Whānui, koia te matua o te kūmara. He mea whānako te kūmara i te rangi ka heria ihotia ki te whenua. Hei utu, ka tukuna e Whānui a Anuhe rātou ko Toronū, ko Moko ki te kai i te kūmara. Ko Anuhe te mea kino rawa atu o rātou. Nā Anuhe ko Tūpoupou (Tūngoungou rānei), nā Tūpoupou ko Hīhue.
