This film shows New Zealander Harold Cleghorn and other weightlifters in action at the 1950 British Empire Games, held in Auckland. Cleghorn was dubbed 'the strongest man in the Empire' when he won New Zealand's first weightlifting gold medal in the heavyweight division. He went on to win bronze in the same event at the 1954 Vancouver Empire and Commonwealth Games.
