Strongman display, 1959

Weightlifter Hugh Jones lifts a man in front of a crowd in Wellington, in 1959. In the 19th and early 20th centuries New Zealanders witnessed weights being lifted as a part of circus or fairground strongman displays. Weight training also began to be part of 'physical culture' exercise routines. Weightlifting became an organised amateur sport in the 1930s.

I am seeking information of a Penman who was a body builder in either the 40's or 50's in New Zealand. Regards, Kerry
